Back in 2014, the Rotary Club of Eau Claire proposed adding decorative lighting to the Phoenix Park pedestrian bridge as its community service project. The project was to be modeled after a bridge in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Club took the lead in raising the $375,000 needed to light the bridge. Financial support came from club members, other area Rotary Clubs, local businesses, Eau Claire residents, the Eau Claire Community Foundation and UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

To implement the project, the Club worked with Downtown Eau Claire Inc, UW-Eau Claire students, and Jason Jon Anderson. Anderson, currently the Executive Director of the Pablo Center at the Confluence, was the UWEC Assistant Director of Conferences and Event Production when the bridge lighting project was active. Anderson has a Master of Fine Arts degree in lighting design and has worked on lighting production for music festivals around the world.

The lights came on in 2017, and it's been glorious.
